Wearing the Hard Hat

So he built the house and finished it; and he covered the house with beams and planks of cedar. – 1 Kings 6:9

My job right now is to get this house renovated. I am pretty good with the work that comes with a renovation: I can demo and do most any of the work as long as I’m directed. But this go-around I will be doing the directing! Yipes! Read more

Flowering Beds

“There is a time for everything, and everything on earth has its special season…There is a time to plant and a time to pull up plants.” Ecclesiastes 3:1-2

I’m sorry but I tend to kill plants. On the other hand, Race can poke a stick into the ground and grow a tree. We are total opposites where this is concerned. 🙂 Read more

Moving On

“As for God, His way is perfect: The Lord’s word is flawless; He shields all who take refuge in Him.” 2 Samuel 22:31

Race and I have now raised four children into adulthood. This has been an amazing and wonderful thing to experience. I LOVE being a mother. I LOVE having babies around. I LOVE having children around. I LOVE having teenagers around! I LOVE every part of motherhood.

While many parts were easy – snuggles, picnics, playing; some parts were hard – sickness, broken hearts, rejection. Read more

Coming Home, Leaving Home

“We ought always to thank God for you, brothers, and rightly so, because your faith is growing more and more, the love every one of you has for each other is increasing.”
2 Thessalonians 1:3

Summertime is a great time to get the family together. Adult children, jobs, various schedules, long distances… that all adds up to visits very far apart.

But THIS WEEK we have Jordan and Lauren visiting!! They both are veterinarians and work odd schedules, but this week their off days aligned and they are coming home to visit! Yea!

With Jordan and Lauren coming to visit Alana before she moves to college next week, it has brought back many memories of moving children to college. Read more

Settling In

You will guide me with Your counsel, and afterward receive me to glory.
Psalm 73:24

I have totally lost the concept of what “settling in” even means nowadays.

If it means:
boxes piled high in a couple rooms and the garage… then I’m settled in.
half of the furniture set up…
half of the dishes in the cabinets…
furniture in your house that doesn’t belong to you…
pictures hung on existing nails…

Oh my, we have far to go! Read more

Going Places

“The LORD is my portion,” says my soul, “therefore I have hope in Him.”

Lamentations 3:24

At the start of 2015 we began packing up the our home in preparation of putting it on the market. This included several projects from re-staining the deck to purchasing stainless appliances, painting trim and power washing the driveway. We even loaded a truck and hauled at least 1/2 of our stuff to Loxley, Alabama (our new location).

We were officially on the market April 25. And sold our home in eleven days! May 29 we had to be out. A blessing. Read more

Hello world!

Welcome to Going Gentry. This is my place to go when I need to share and express myself during this crazy, busy life that involves eight adults, four dogs, at least six cats, two or three birds, and who knows how many other exotic animals. We are located from Houston to Mobile, to Loxley, to Auburn, to Nashville. We work hard at staying in touch with each other as we are all in the middle of new homes, new jobs, new schools, new cities… life has changed but instead of going crazy, I’m Going Gentry!
