“Then all the people went away to eat and drink, to send portions of food and to celebrate with great joy, because they now understood the words that had been made known to them.”

Nehemiah 8:12

“The kitchen is the heart of the home.” I have always had a dream of one day having a kitchen large enough so that each of my girls (all four of them :)) would have a place to join in the fun and fellowship of making memories. Memories from the heart. Memories of gathering together. Memories of working and loving and serving together. Memories of family.

We began our kitchen renovation November 2015 and then took December off, but we have have completed painting the cabinets and I’m working on the flooring. It has come a very long way!

We have missed having a finished kitchen. And even though the floors are still incomplete and the backsplash has not been decided upon, I am so excited to have every other part completed!

Here is where we started: Soffit overhang above the cabinets, 30 year old stick on tiles, old school wood cabinets (which were solid wood, a plus!), giant hood vent as big as the island (already down in this picture), popcorn ceiling, small island, and green laminate counter tops.

And here is the finished room: (minus the floor and backsplash – which will be completed soon!)

We are loving our new kitchen!

It just about drove me crazy. The varnish on the wood cabinets was so old it was crystalized and couldn’t be sanded. I had to chemically strip each piece. Then sand. Then paint and finish. Thankfully all the outdoor work took place during a sweet warm spell in January!

Every one job with this house renovation becomes two jobs… and then some! 🙂 We are loving how everything is turning out and are excited about the next project: floors! Yea!

Instead of going crazy, we’re Going Gentry! Love y’all.
